My New Book + a Giveaway!

***Giveaway Closed***

Look what showed up at my house last week!

It's my new book.

It's strange to think that this whole project started over a year ago.   And now here it is!  Time has flown by.

I have to admit when I saw the package on my door step last week I was hesitant to go outside and get it.   I knew what was in the package and I was a little nervous to open it.  After countless hours of brainstorming, drawing up templates, crafting pages, writing and editing instructions, waiting, and wondering, and worrying here it was in my hands.  MY book!

I can still hardly believe that I've published a book.

And if you've ever thought you might like to make a quiet book I say go for it!  They are so much fun to make.  Don't feel like you have to be an expert at sewing either.  These pages require very little sewing that can all be done by hand if you don't own a machine.  These pages are so easy to make.  I've laid it all out for you: how to get started, gathering supplies, step-by-step instructions, and finishing up your book.

The book comes with this handy CD too that includes all the templates and cute clip art to make some really fun and unique pages.

It's hard to choose but this castle scene is my favorite page.

My kids love it too.

Open up the castle doors and place the princess and knight safely inside or place the princess high in the castle tower to keep her safe from the fierce dragon.  The dragon can flyaway to his home in the (cloud pocket) sky.

This play scene is a fun platform that allows children to use their imagination and storytelling skills.

These Olympic track runners are another favorite page of mine.

Race the runners down the track by pulling them along the ribbons.  Once they reach the finish line award them with first, second, and third place metals.  Awarding the metals helps young children learn number placement.  So much fun!

And there's so much more!  Below I'm giving away two free copies to two lucky winners.  Want a copy now?  You can buy it on amazon here.  The holidays are coming up and what a fun gift this would make for your crafty friend, sister, cousin, or mother-in-law.  Don't forget to grab a copy for yourself too.  Already own a copy?  Feel free to leave a review on amazon.  I would love that!

The whole process of making this book has been an exciting and fun experience, but now I want to hear about what has happened to you lately that's been exciting or fun!  Enter the giveaway through rafflecopter and leave me a comment telling me your good news!

Good luck!

  30. My good news is that I finally got around to starting a blog myself a couple of days ago! It's still a work in progress, and I'm climbing an extremely steep learning curve, as I don't do technology too well, but I have it up and running at least! (I think! LOL!)

Ideally, I want to create a kind of 'social journal' where people can learn about all kinds of crafts as well as all kinds of illnesses and disabilities, to see what is still possible, even when you might think things are bad. There are hurdles that may need to be overcome, but there are often ways around - or over - those hurdles!

I'm a life-long crafter who qualified as an occupational therapist, only to lose my career 4 years later at only 25 years of age, after I broke my back in a car accident. I always was a bit of a hoarder, as most of us crafters are, but my collection of health problems that I've acquired in the 26 years since that car accident is unreal!! Even my consultant neurologist says I must be the unluckiest person he has ever met! LOL!

So, I figure that I'm well 'educated' in the subjects of illness, disability and crafts, as well as learning ways around things as an OT, and I want to be able to share my knowledge and experience and help other people maybe learn more about, and come to terms with, their health problems, and realise that their diagnosis doesn't have to mean the end of doing what they love.

I'd be really grateful if anyone reading this would pass on the addy to anyone they think might benefit from such a blog, or may even want to tell their own stories - that's where the 'social' bit comes in . . . I'd love other people to use my blog to tell their stories , too. I don't want to be the only one doing the talking all the time! Haha!

Pop along to http://grandmumziesgregariousgazette.blogspot.co.uk/ or pass on the addy please, and give me a hand to get it started. I'd really appreciate it! Thanks.

And the book is a brilliant project. The grown ups get to craft to help keep the kids busy, boost their imagination and build their love of books! There are so many bonuses here that I can't keep count!

I have an almost 3 year old grandson who I'm sure would appreciate a quiet book, so I'd love to win one of your books . . . but I'm also a good customer of Amazon.co.uk if I don't! ;-D

  34. On Saturday we had a Four-Birthdays-At-Once Party for my son, my daughter, my husband and my dad (chronologically) who had their birthdays within the last two weeks. It was the first time when we celebrated all four together, usually we have a party for kids' BDs on one weekend and the party for our older guys the next. But this year we had a wedding on the weekend we would do kids' party. The funniest part was the candles on the cake: we had an idea to sum all their ages up and put 133 on the cake.
Congratulations on your book! Great job!!!
And thank you for the giveaway!

  36. My good news will be very boring I suppose but I'm THRILLED about it because we finally have the money to have our leaking roof fixed. It's been leaking for over 5 yrs and we've had tarps over it for that long and my poor husband has had to replace those tarps more times than I can even remember and I don't even want to think about the cost we've spent in those years on tarps because they weren't cheap little ones. :( BUT YAY! We can finally replace the roof. Super excited about that.

And too- my sewing machine finally came back late last week from the repair guy and I was super lucky with that also because nothing was broken as I feared so it was just he cost to clean and adjust the machine. Great news for me.

  61. Living in South Africa, I had never heard of a Quiet Book previously, however from all the pins I saw on Pinterest, I decided that I wanted to try one for my Grand daughter's 1st birthday. My daughter & I worked together on a basic one and we completed it for the special day. Everyone was amazed and impressed with our efforts and I must say, so was I. I hope she treasures our efforts and passes it onto her kids one day. I am motivated to attempt more and have pinned lots of ideas. (I can't get into the terms & conditions, but will understand if I am not able to enter living in South Africa - it is usually the case :( )

  89. Bought your book on Amazon, love. Have made your car mats, love. BUT what size are the busy book pages supposed to be? I am staring at the book this afternoon and can't find it anywhere....8.5x11? Just trying to figure out what size to cut the Pellon and how much I need to buy. (And if it's in the book, tell me what page it is so I stop feeling like I am going crazy!) :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The pages are 7 x 8.5. It isn't listed in the book because there is a template to print out and trace so you can get your pages the exact size. You can later use the template to help you place the holes for binding. Good luck making your quiet book! Thanks so much for buying a copy!!!

    2. Is it the template for the vinyl pocket on page 48 or 49? I didn't realize it was the reg. page layout as well as the pocket page if that's the case. Thank you!

    4. The page template is the vinyl pocket page on 48. Thank you for bringing it to my attention that it was labeled incorrectly. Of course I'm feeling very embarrassed that this HUGE mistake was made! This was a mistake of the publishing company and I'm not sure how things were misinterpreted that way. I will be contacting them shortly to let them know.
